Outside Play
When kids participate in a lot of organized and structured
activities, it can be difficult for them to be satisfied with
unstructured time. Encourage your children and your family
to write up a “Wish List” of things to do in your free time.
Just hanging out leads to play!
What to do in your own Backyard:
- Find time to just “hang out”
- Do a chore together (clean the garage, rake leaves)
- Play with your children
- Teach them a new skill
- Lay in the grass and look at the clouds, or roll over
and look for 4 leaf clovers
- Plant and tend a garden together
- Put on your own Backyard Olympics
- Build a Campfire, roast marshmallows, sing songs
- Go for a walk
- Consider it “play” time, rather than “exercise” time (it’s
more fun!)
- Plan a surprise outing
- Organize a family project
