February Issues make good reading

The February issue of Parenting magazine

has an article titled Slow Down, Be happy; ways to find and enjoy more time with your family. "Instead of asking yourself if you're depriving your kids of opportunities" says Bill Doherty, "ask yourself: Am I depriving them of important time to hang out with me?"

The February 11 issue of Family Circle magazine

has an article titled Taking Time for Togetherness. The author, Vicky Mlyniec writes "What most of us long for - less chauffeuring and micro-managing and more time to enjoy our families - happens to be what's best for our kids." Bill Doherty and my family (the Kakuks!) are also quoted in this article... which is not yet available online.

The premier issue of Women's Faith & Spirit

from the publishers of Better Homes & Gardens and Ladies' Home Journal has "Put Your Family First!" on the front cover. "It's the trend that's sweeping the country: exhausted and overextended families are saying no to the mad scramble of sports practices, music lessons and ballet recitals and making family time their top priority. Here's how you can join them." This is an inspiring article.

Kids just wanna have fun with their parents

A striking New Year poll of 459 children found that kids want their parents to resolve to "spend more time relaxing and having fun" than to make any other resulution for 2003. Other resolutions in the same area were "spend more time with me" and "spend less time at work."

Is it time to start listening to our children?
